H.R.H. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom, wishes to extend an arm of friendship and brotherhood to our African-American brothers and sisters in the United States of America. We would like to assure them that Bunyoro-Kitara is still their home and they are welcome to visit and stay anytime. In their plans to visit their homeland, they should include Bunyoro on their itinerary; because this is the home of the mighty King Chwa II Kabalega, who fought the British to maintain the liberty, freedom and self-determination of his people.
We would like to cultivate a lasting cultural and business relationship with our African-American kindred. We are, therefore, inviting them to come and join us in joint business ventures, learn more about our culture, teach in our schools, and experience their African culture for sharing with others at home. Very few of our people have ever met or interacted with an African-American.
We know very little about these people who are, in every way, our own people. Most of what we hear and see portrayed in the media is stereotypical and less than positive. We invite our brothers and sisters to come and set the record straight. Most of what they hear about Africa is very negative and ill informed. We are asking them to give us a chance to set the record straight. We want to show them the Africa of their dignified ancestors, of which they should be proud.
